Ying-Ying Penn, M.D.
Ying-Ying Penn, M.D., received her medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in August 1989. She completed her internship and residency training in pediatrics at University of Texas Medical School in Houston. After completion of her residency, she started her mobile clinic to care for underserved children. In 1997 she started her private pediatric practice and has continued to provide care for children in her now expanded clinic. She is board certified in Pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
After years of practicing in conventional western medicine, Dr. Penn pursued her interest in integrative medicine and received her Master Degree in traditional Chinese medicine in 2014. She is now also a board certified and licensed acupuncturist and herbalist in Texas.
Dr. Penn always wants her patients to be in the best health states they can possibly be. She keeps her patients healthy and was able to care her patients to achieve lower hospital admission rate, lower admission days and lower emergency room visits year after year. In 2016 alone, her admission rate was 40% of her peers, 20% of the health plan. Her patients admission rate days was 51% of her peers and 29% of the health plan and her patients' emergency room visit rate was 55% of her peers and 51% or the entire health plan.
With formal training in both western and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Dr. Penn takes the scientific western medicine approach to incorporate TCM when indicated to help her patients. She has treated many patients who failed western medicine interventions with excellent outcomes.
Feeling the need to share her experience with the global medical community to better care and offer effective alternatives for patients, Dr. Penn organizes her cases for publication. Her first submission titled 'Acupuncture treatment for dysfunctional uterine bleeding in an adolescent' is published in the case report by one of the top medical journals in the world, British Medical Journal. Dr. Penn has a vast interest in many different fields. She enjoys adventurous traveling, hiking, gardening, cooking, designing and doing research on many subjects. Above of all, she likes to share her knowledge and experience to help her patients.
